Moravian Shuts Out DeSales in Season Opener

Junior forward Tori Poliskiewicz netted the only goal and sophomore goalie Andrea Eck made four saves to lead the Moravian College field hockey team to a 1-0 non-conference win at Betty Prince Field Thursday afternoon to kickoff the 2011-12 athletic season.

With the victory, Moravian head coach Amy Endler who is in her ninth season, became the third field hockey coach in school history to earn 50 career wins, joining Betty Prince, who had 60 wins, and Anette Legath, who holds the school record with 98 victories.

Poliskiewicz, who is in her first season with the Greyhounds, netted an unassisted goal 7:18 into the second half with a shot from the left side to break a scoreless match.

Both squads attempted eight shots in the contest, but the Greyhounds had a 7-3 edge in shots in the second half. Moravian also had a 6-3 advantage in penalty corners. For Eck, it is her second career shutout and also her second career victory. Junior goalie Victoria DelToro had five saves, all in the second half, for the Bulldogs. DeSales Sophomore forward Amanda Trickey led all players with three shots in the match.
