The Moravian College field hockey team defeated Arcadia University Friday afternoon by a score of 2-0 for the best start since 1994, when the program also started 4-1. Sophomore goalkeeper Andrea Eck led the way for the Greyhounds, posting her third shutout of the season and improving her record to 4-1.
The Knights held Moravian at a stalemate during the first half of play. Sophomore Chelsea Grotyohann put the Greyhounds on the board early in the second half with a penalty stroke goal, her second of the season. Junior Brianna Van Buskirk added an insurance goal with ten minutes left to put Moravian up 2-0, and that would be the final.
Junior goalkeeper Sarah Baumgardner for Arcadia tallied seven saves on the day, and sophomore defender Pam Schweitzer had a defensive save. Moravian had a 14-13 edge in shots but Arcadia had more penalty corners at 9-3.
The Greyhounds return to action Tuesday, September 20 when they travel to Neumann University for a non-conference contest. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
Moravian returns home next Saturday, September 24 when they host conference rival The Catholic University of America at Betty Prince Field. The match-up is scheduled for 1 p.m.
