Coach Bierce to Tryout for Reality Show with Cal Ripken, Jr.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College assistant baseball coach Daniel Bierce will be one of approximately 70 baseball players to begin tryouts Saturday for a reality television show with Cal Ripken, Jr.

The show, titled "The Player with Cal Ripken, Jr." will be filmed at the Aberdeen Ironbirds Stadium in Aberdeen, Maryland beginning Saturday morning.  The field will be cut to 40 players Saturday afternoon, and after a game Saturday evening, the group will be cut to 25.  On Sunday, Cal and Billy Ripken will try out the remaining 25 players to get to 12 for the show. The winner of the television show will receive a professional development contract with the Baltimore Orioles for 2013.

Bierce joined the Moravian coaching staff in 2011 after an outstanding playing career at Lafayette College.  Bierce holds the Leopards records for games played in a career at 194 and doubles in a season with 18 in 2009 as a senior.  Bierce, a four-year starter at shortstop, was a two-time All-Patriot League Second Team selection, and his is second in Lafayette history with 656 career at-bats and tied for fifth with 197 career hits.
