Connell & Hanson Named to ABCA/Rawlings All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. --- Junior outfielder Joseph Connell and sophomore outfielder Matt Hanson of the Moravian College baseball team have been named to the 2013 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team announced Monday.

The duo helped Moravian to a 24-19 record this season including the program's second Landmark Conference title in the last four seasons and a berth in the 2013 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament last week in the Auburn N.Y. Regional. The Greyhounds were 10-8 in the Landmark regular season and won the conference tournament as the third seed.

Connell, who was on the 2012 ABCA Mid-Atlantic Region Gold Glove Team, had a team high 56 hits this spring to go with 28 runs, ten doubles, four triples, two homers, nine stolen bases, ten walks, six sacrifice hits and 40 RBI. Connell became the 23rd player in school history to reach the 100-career hit milestone earlier this season, and he had a .513 slugging percentage and a .402 on-base percentage this year. In center field, Connell had 100 putouts and two assists in 102 chances.

Hanson, who was named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team this spring, had a team high .377 average with 52 hits, 13 doubles, five triples, 33 runs, 15 stolen bases, 15 walks, nine hit by pitch, four sacrifice hits and 20 RBI this season. Hanson led the Greyhounds in slugging percentage at .543, on-base percentage at .466, runs scored, doubles, triples, hit by pitch and stolen bases. From his right field position, Hanson had 78 putouts and two assists in 81 chances.
