Four Baseball Players Honored by Landmark Conference; Savite Named Rookie of the Year

Landmark All-Conference honorees

TOWSON, Md. --- Four Moravian College baseball players have been honored by the Landmark Conference with sophomore outfielder Matt Hanson earning a spot on the 2013 Landmark All-Conference First Team, junior pitcher Robert Solano and sophomore third baseman Ryan Luke named to the All-Conference Second Team and freshman first baseman Charles Savite honored as the Rookie of the Year.

The quartet has helped Moravian to a 24-17 record this spring and the 2013 Landmark Conference Championship earlier this week. The Greyhounds were 10-8 in the Landmark regular season and were the third seed in the four-team Landmark Conference Tournament. By winning the program's second conference title in four years, Moravian earned an automatic berth to the 2013 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament field that will be announced late on Sunday, May 12th.

Hanson is leading the Greyhounds this season with a .364 batting average, and he also has team highs of 15 stolen bases, five triples, nine hit by pitch and a .530 slugging percentage. Hanson has collected 48 hits this season to go with 33 runs, 12 doubles, 14 walks and 19 RBI in 37 games. While playing in right field, Hanson has 74 putouts and two assists in 77 chances in the field.

Solano has posted a 5-2 record on the mound this season while starting in ten of his 12 appearances. Solano has a 3.72 ERA in a team high 65.1 innings pitched to go with 18 walks, 38 strikeouts and an opponent's batting average of .266. Solano also has 18 assists while on the mound.

Luke is hitting .331 this season with a team high 42 RBI. He has 48 hits, 27 runs scored, 12 doubles, three triples, two home runs, nine walks, five stolen bases and a .497 slugging percentage. Luke also has 35 putouts and 69 assists while playing 38 games at third base this spring.

Savite has a .315 average in his debut season while starting 39 of the 40 games he has played. Savite has 46 hits, 30 runs scored, eight doubles, two triples, 27 RBI and a team high 17 walks this year. In the field, Savite has 320 putouts, just two shy of the single season school record, and 28 assists while playing at first base. Savite has also made four appearances on the mound with one save, two walks and two strikeouts in 4.1 innings of action.
