Connell & Zaloga Named Landmark Baseball Player & Pitcher of the Week

Landmark Conference Players of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Junior outfielder Joseph Connell and freshman pitcher Anthony Zaloga of the Moravian College baseball team have been named the Landmark Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week after their performances last week while leading the Greyhounds to the 2013 Landmark Conference title.

The duo helped Moravian post a 4-0 record for the week including a 3-0 mark at the Landmark Conference Tournament hosted by top seed The Catholic University of America. The third seeded Greyhounds topped fourth seed The University of Scranton, 8-5, in Monday's championship game to win their second Landmark title in four years and earn the program's second berth to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.

Connell hit .500 for the week with nine hits in 18 at-bats, and he was eight-for-13 (.615) in the conference tournament with four doubles that all drove in runs, eight RBI, five runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Connell also had ten putouts from his center field position for the Greyhounds.

Zaloga was 1-0 during the week after tossing a complete game in Moravian's 8-1 win over Scranton on Sunday to reach the championship round. For the week, Zaloga had a 2.31 ERA, seven strikeouts and two walks in 11 2/3 innings, and he allowed just three runs on 12 hits during the week. Zaloga also had two putouts and three assists in five chances in the field in his two appearances.

Moravian will return to action on Wednesday, May 15th in the 2013 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. The Greyhounds will find out late on Sunday, May 12th or early on Monday, May 13th the site and opponent for their opening round game.
