Hounds Select Gindle, Kane & Wehr as 2019 Softball Captains

Moravian names Kaela Kane, Ashley Gindle and Brooke Wehr as 2019 Softball captains.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College softball team has named seniors Ashley Gindle and Kaela Kane and sophomore Brooke Wehr as captains for the 2019 season.

"Brooke, Kaela and Ashley all possess the qualities that exemplify what we look for in a Moravian College softball player," stated 26th-year Head Coach John Byrne. "Each has their own unique leadership qualities that blend very effectively in the leadership of our team."

Gindle enters her fourth season as an outfielder for the Hounds. She has appeared in 88 career games with 20 runs, six hits, a pair of doubles and six RBIs to go with 18 putouts and an assist, and Gindle is a two-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll and was part of Moravian's inaugural Chi Alpha Sigma National Athlete Honor Society induction class.

Kane, an infielder, begins her senior season with 99 career hits in 116 games, and she has 68 runs, 10 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 43 RBIs, 25 walks and 13 stolen bases at the plate to go with 160 putouts and 178 assists in the field. Kane, who was limited a year ago by injuries, was named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team as a sophomore in 2017 and the All-Conference Second Team in 2016.

Wehr, an outfielder and catcher, returns after a debut season that saw her selected to the Landmark All-Conference First Team last May. Wehr hit .355 with 54 hits, 48 runs, nine doubles, 12 home runs, 39 RBIs, 13 walks and five stolen bases at the plate to go with 39 putouts while mainly seeing action in right field as a freshman.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to begin their 2019 season on Sunday, March 3 when the squad plays Thiel College and John Carroll (Ohio) University at the PFX Spring Games at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida.
