Scheeler & Lesher Selected as Landmark Conference Softball Player & Pitcher of the Week

Freshman Alexandria Scheeler and junior Paige Lesher selected as Landmark Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College freshman Alexandria Scheeler and junior Paige Lesher have been selected as the Landmark Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for their performances last week.

Scheeler led Moravian at the plate with a .538 average as the squad posted a 6-2 record at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida, and she also made five appearances in the circle with a 2-0 mark, a 4.01 ERA and six strikeouts in 22.2 innings. Scheeler was 14-for-26 with two runs, three doubles, a triple, five RBIs, a stolen base, a .556 on-base percentage and a .731 slugging percentage, and she also had four assists in the field. Scheeler hit safely in all eight games during the week and was 4-for-5 in a 15-6 win over Wittenberg (Ohio) University, where she also made the start in the circle. Scheeler added a 2-for-3 game versus RPI and 2-for-4 games versus Emmanuel (Mass.) College, Lebanon Valley College and Alvernia University. In the circle, Scheeler earned complete game wins over Emmanuel, 9-2, and Alvernia, 10-2 in five innings.

Lesher had a 4-0 week in the circle in five appearances, and she posted a 1.66 ERA with 10 runs allowed, just six earned on 29 hits and four walks to go with nine strikeouts in 25.1 innings. She also had one putout and six assists in seven chances in the field. Lesher opened the week with a 3-0 shutout of Monmouth (Ill.) College, her first career shutout, as she scattered seven hits and a walk to go with two strikeouts. Lesher earned a win in a start versus Lebanon Valley as she tossed 4.2 innings in the 16-8 victory. She came in relief and earned victory in Moravian 15-6 win over Wittenberg with 3.1 innings of work, and Lesher also tossed 3.1 innings in relief in the Hounds loss to RPI the same day. Lesher finished the week with her second complete game as she pitched Moravian to a 6-2 win over Defiance (Ohio) College.

"Both Alexandria and Paige had a week that saw them improve with each game they played," stated Head Coach John Byrne.

Moravian is slated to begin its 2019 home season on Thursday, March 14 when the squad hosts Gwynedd Mercy University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Blue & Grey Field in Bethlehem.
