Steinert Named Landmark Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Lauren Steinert '20 named as the Landmark Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College sophomore Lauren Steinert has been named the Landmark Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.

Steinert helped the Greyhounds to a 2-0 record last week in Landmark Conference action as the squad clinched the second seed in the 2018 Landmark Conference Tournament. Steinert was 2-0 during the week at fifth singles and 2-0 at third doubles with freshman Mary Angle, and she recorded with match-clinching fifth team point in both contests. Steinert and Angle had a 9-7 win at third doubles in a 5-4 win over Drew University to put the Hounds ahead 2-1, and Steinert then won 6-0, 7-5 at fifth singles for a 5-1 lead and the victory. In a 5-3 win over Elizabethtown College to clinch the home semifinal match, Steinert and Angle had an 8-3 win for the Greyhounds' only point in doubles. Steinert then scored the fifth team point with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 victory at fifth singles.

"Lauren picked up four wins in doubles and singles this past week," stated assistant coach Mariana Freitas. "She gave us the winning point on Saturday during the match against Elizabethtown. It was a huge win for her as she went undefeated in conference for both singles and doubles, and it also helped our team secure the second seed spot for the Landmark Conference Tournament."

Moravian, which is 11-2 overall and was 6-1 in the Landmark Conference regular season, is slated to host third seed The Catholic University of America in a Landmark Conference Semifinal match on Tuesday, May 1 with action beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Hoffman Courts in Bethlehem.
