Jordan Luciano honored as 2019 Landmark Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Senior Scholar-Athlete.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Jordan Luciano has been honored as the 2019 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women's Indoor Track & Field.

The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators and sports information directors. Chosen at the conclusion of each sport season, the six winter honorees are being announced this week.

Luciano, who spent the first two years of her collegiate career studying and participating at Johns Hopkins University, has helped the women's indoor track & field team win its second straight Landmark Conference Indoor Championship in February. Luciano was the runner-up in the long jump at 5.22 meters (17-1.5) and the 200-meter dash in 27.74 seconds, and she also competed in the 60-meter dash. In 2018, Luciano was the Landmark Champion in the long jump at 5.10 meters (16-8.75) and the 4x200-meter relay while also running in the 200-meter dash at the meet. Luciano set three personal bests during the 2019 indoor season including 5.34 meters in the long jump at the Kutztown University Last Chance Qualifier, 8.41 seconds in the 60-meter dash in the preliminaries of the Landmark Championships and 27.45 seconds in the 200-meter dash at the Lehigh University Fast Times Before Finals.

In her only outdoor track & field season at Moravian so far, Luciano helped the Hounds win the Landmark Conference Title in 2018 by winning the long jump at 5.11 meters (16-9.25), her personal best outdoors, and being part of the wining 4x100-meter relay squad. Luciano also ran in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes last May and has PRs of 12.95 in the 100-meter dash, 26.88 seconds in the 200-meter dash and 29.76 meters (97-8) in the javelin.

Off the track, Luciano has maintained a 4.00 GPA while majoring in computer science. She has made the Dean's List in each of her three semesters at Moravian, and Luciano will finish her career as a five-time selection to the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Rolls. She was part of Moravian's inaugural Chi Alpha Sigma National Athlete Honor Society Class, is a member of Moravian's Computing Club and received a Founder's Scholarship. Luciano played on the women's soccer team in 2017, scoring two goals in 14 matches while helping the Greyhounds go 9-6-1.

"Jordan has only been at Moravian for two years but in her time here she's excelled in the classroom and she has been involved with a lot of relevant out-of-the-class experiences which have prepared her well to already have a job lined up when she graduates in May," explained Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "She is a very focused person and her exceptional GPA here is a reflection of that, along with how well she is prepared for her life after Moravian. She'll be hitting the ground running in a few months thanks to these character traits.

"As an athlete, she's as devoted as anyone. In the offseason when I'm working in the office, I routinely see her coming in to work in the ARC or our weight room on her own. She challenges our staff to be our best because she wants to excel in everything she pursues. She's been a crucial part of our success the past two years in the relays, sprints, and jumps and will continue to be a key contributor to our team this outdoor season. Few do a better job of fulfilling the expectations of a true student-athlete like Jordan has and she's very deserving of this recognition," finished Baumann.

Luciano is Moravian's 28th Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete since the conference began in 2007-08, and she is the second women's indoor track & field student-athlete to be honored and fifth overall female track & field honoree including the outdoor season.
