Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Match at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team played its first match of the year on the road, falling in a non-conference match at Widener University, 25-14, 12-25, 25-22, 25-20, Tuesday evening.

The Greyhounds, 3-2 overall, hit the road after four matches in the 12th Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational during the opening weekend of 2014, traveling to Chester to battle the Pride.

Sophomore middle blocker Taylor Kornmann paced the Hounds with a match-high 12 kills to go with a pair of blocks while freshman outside hitter Mary Zacher added 10 kills and nine digs. Junior middle blocker Victoria Bobyak contributed eight kills and two blocks for Moravian while senior outside hitter Kelianne Comitalo made five kills and six digs in the match.

Junior setter Megan Szkolnicki paced the Greyhounds with 32 assists, and she added five digs and two blocks while sophomore opposite hitter Jaclyn Smith added four kills, a pair of digs and two blocks. Freshman libero Jean Markovic led Moravian with 22 digs while junior defensive specialist Andrea Giardina contributed 10 digs and junior outside hitter Lauren Hostetler added nine digs.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Friday, September 5 in the opening day of the Buttermaker Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College. The Hounds will play Baruch (N.Y.) College at 3:00 p.m. and Allegheny College at 7:00 p.m.
