Greyhounds Drop Non-Conference Game at Hobart

GENEVA, N.Y. --- The Moravian University football squad had a third quarter lead before falling to host Hobart (N.Y.) College, 27-12, in non-conference action Saturday.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds had the opening possession of the afternoon, and the Blue & Grey picked up a first down before punting from midfield
  • The Statesman also punted on their first drive after one first down
  • Moravian's next drive covered 80 yards in 14 plays with junior running back Camron Tinajero scoring on a six-yard touchdown run to give the Greyhounds a 6-0 lead with 2:37 left in the first quarter after missing the extra point
  • Hobart looked to answer but missed a 28-yard field goal to keep the Moravian lead at 6-0
  • The squads traded punts throughout the rest of the half as the Hounds headed to the locker room with the 6-0 edge
  • The Greyhounds forced the Statesmen to punt on the first possession of the second half; however, freshman wide receiver Josh Ludlow muffed the returned. Hobart recovered and turned the miscue into a 10-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-6 lead with 11:27 to go in the third quarter
  • After each squad punted once, Moravian retook the lead on a 17-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Jared Jenkins to senior wide receiver Bryan Monge with 3:46 left in the third quarter. The Hounds went for two but missed to set the score at 12-7
  • The Statesmen countered with a 77-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter. Hobart attempted a two-point conversion; however, sophomore defensive back Aidan Lane intercepted the pass to make it 13-12 for the Statesmen with 12:36 remaining
  • Hobart forced the Hounds into a punt, and then the Statesman scored again on a one-yard touchdown run to extend the advantage to 20-12 with 8:50 to play
  • Hobart turned a Moravian fumble into a 25-yard touchdown pass to stretch the lead to 27-12 with 4:25 left in the contest
  • The Hounds reached the red zone one more time before a fumble ended the drive late in the fourth quarter 

Inside the Numbers

  • The Greyhounds had 274 yards of total offense including 221 yards in the air
  • Jenkins completed 23-of-36 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown as he became the eighth quarterback in program history to surpass 4,000 yards passing in a career, now with 4,008. Freshman Declan McCarthy completed his only pass for 30 yards to go with seven yards on two carries
  • Graduate student wide receiver Jordan Bingham caught 11 passes for 98 yards as he became the 23rd player in program history to reach 1,000 career receiving yards, now with 1,060 yards in just 12 career games
  • Senior wide receiver Diego Del Castillo had four receptions for 25 yards while Monge caught three passes for 69 yards and his touchdown. Sophomore wide receiver Avery Koser added three receptions for 16 yards while freshman wide receiver Josh Ludlow had one reception for 30 yards and two kickoff returns for 48 yards
  • Graduate student running back Joey Richmond led the rushing attack with 21 yards on six attempts to go with one catch for a yard while junior running back Isiah Rico had 18 yards on eight carries to go with one reception for 13 yards
  • Tinajero gained nine yards on four attempts with his touchdown while freshman wide receiver Jacob Sutton had two yards on one carry and a kickoff return for 14 yards
  • Freshman Jack Corrigan punted six times for an average of 46.7 yards, and he had four punts over 50 yards including a long of 65 yards. Corrigan also kicked off three times for an average of 57.7 yards with one touchback
  • Lane led the Moravian defense with nine tackles while senior linebacker Chris Cacace made eight stops with a sack. Freshman linebacker Malachi McNeil-Harrison contributed seven tackles with a pass breakup while junior linebacker Clay Basile recorded five stops with a pass breakup
  • Junior defensive lineman Nathan Carr had four tackles with two for loss while junior linebacker Ethan O'Neil had four stops
  • Junior defensive back Shea Endean contributed a pair of pass breakups while senior defensive back Isaiah Johnson registered three tackles, a sack and a pass breakup
