Greyhounds Drop Non-Conference Game to Misericordia

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's basketball squad fell to visiting Misericordia University, 92-82 in non-conference action in Johnston Hall Friday night.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds opened the scoring with guard Danny Cooper hitting a lay-up, followed by sophomore guard Alex Dietz draining a three-pointer to give the Hounds a 5-0 edge almost two minutes into the action. The Cougars evened the contest at 5-5 before Moravian extended their lead to 13-7 after a three-pointer from junior guard Nate Dougherty with 16:36 to go in the first half
  • Misericordia took their first lead of the game at 14-13 with 14:20 remaining the half, but both squads would exchange baskets and the Cougars led by six, 40-34 with 3:45 minutes to play. The Hounds would surge back to tie it up at 41-41 after a three-pointer from sophomore forward Mike DiPietro with just two minutes until the intermission
  • The Blue and Grey would score six points the rest of the half as Misericordia sank one free throw to put the game at 47-42 as the teams headed to the locker room
  • The Cougars scored the first two points of the second half to cut the score at 47-44, but Moravian countered with another three from DiPietro to push their lead to six, 50-44. The Greyhounds continue to add to their lead, extending it to 13 points, 61-48, with 15 minutes remaining in the half.
  • Misericordia responded and would tie the contest at 71-71 with 4:45 left to play. After a series of lead changes and ties, Moravian regained the edge at 77-75 before the Cougars took the lead for good with 2:37 remaining and handed the Greyhounds a 92-82 loss

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had three players in double figures and two score 20 points each. Dougherty added five rebounds, two assists, one steal and a blocked shot while DiPietro, who netted a career-best 20 points, also contributed a team-high six boards, a steal and one assist
  • Dietz tossed in 18 points led the Hounds with six assists and two rebounds as Cooper contributed nine points to go five assists and two rebounds
  • Sophomore guard C.J. Weber and freshman Thomas Abato both scored five points, with Weber adding two rebounds and an assist while Abato grabbed five boards and one assist
  • Sophomore forward James Thompson contributed three points, two rebounds and an assist while junior forward Joe Paulillo added two points and one rebound as freshman guard/forward Michael Leonardo pulled down three rebounds and had a career-best two blocked shots.
  • Moravian shot 30-for-65 from the floor (46.2 percent), and the Hounds were 10-for-12 at the foul line (83.3 percent) while sinking 12 three-pointers
