BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's basketball squad ended its 2021-22 season Saturday afternoon, falling to visiting Juniata College, 91-71, in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall, and the Greyhounds celebrated Senior Day before the game.

How It Happened

  • The Eagles netted the opening three points before junior guard Nate Dougherty sank a three-pointer for the Blue and Grey to knot the contest at 3-3. Juniata scored five straight points to move back in front. Moravian pulled back within a point on four occasions, the final time at 14-13 after a jumper from freshman guard/forward Antonio Montgomery at the 12:31 mark
  • Juniata then went on a 13-0 run to extend its advantage to 27-13 before senior guard Danny Cooper drained a three-pointer. The Eagles had the edge up to 15 points, but the Hounds would connect on four three-pointers in the final 2:52, the final one by sophomore guard Alex Dietz just seconds before the intermission as Moravian cut the deficit to five points, 39-34, at halftime
  • The Eagles started the second half with a 10-0 run before Dougherty connected on a jumper for the Blue and Grey. Dietz brought the deficit back to 10 points at 51-41 with 15:23 to play; however, that would be as close as the Greyhounds would get the rest of the afternoon
  • Prior to Senior Day for Cooper, the Greyhounds honored 12-year-old Ezekiel Rodas of Allentown on his completion of two years with Moravian and Team IMPACT. Rodas officially signed with Greyhounds in January 2020 and received his certificate for spending two years with the Hounds. Team IMPACT is a national non-profit that connects kids facing serious and chronic diagnoses to college athletic teams throughout the country. Since 2019, Ezekiel has been with the team for practices, games, team dinners, video calls, and more.

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had three players in double figures led by Cooper, who netted a game-high 22 points to go with five assists, five steals and three rebounds. Cooper had 386 points, 107 rebounds, 96 assists, 31 steals and 47 three-pointers in just his first year playing collegiate basketball, topping the Greyhounds in all but rebounds, and he was also the only Moravian player this season to see more than 800 minutes of action
  • Dougherty tossed in 16 points and dished out three assists while Dietz added 13 points
  • Sophomore forward Thomas Abato had nine points, two assists and a pair of rebounds while Montgomery finished with eight points and four boards. Freshman forward Nate Santiago added three points and three rebounds while sophomore guard C.J. Weber had a pair of rebounds
  • The Greyhounds forced the Eagles into 16 turnovers while making just 13 miscues
