Hounds Fall at Juniata in 2021-22 Landmark Conference Opener

HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's basketball team fell to host Juniata College, 93-50, to begin the 2021-22 Landmark Conference season Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Eagles netted the first seven points before sophomore guard Alex Dietz hit a jumper for the Greyhounds. Juniata scored another nine points to quickly push the lead to 16-2 just 5:48 into the contest. Moravian closed back with 11 points at 18-7 on a three-point play from sophomore guard C.J. Weber at the 12:08 mark. However, the Eagles continued to pull away and headed to the locker room with a 47-18 lead
  • The second half saw Juniata continue to extend its advantage, eventually leading by 45 points in the final minute before freshman guard Luciano Lunetta hit a jumper for his first career basket and finish off the scoring in the contest

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had just one player in double figures with senior guard Danny Cooper netting 16 points to go with two rebounds and a pair of assists
  • Weber and sophomore forward Thomas Abato each scored seven points with Abato grabbing a team-high eight rebounds while Weber tied his career high with four boards
  • Dietz contributed six points, three assists and two boards while sophomore forward Mike DiPietro had four points and four rebounds
  • Junior guard Nate Dougherty and sophomore guard Justin LaBrusciano both had three points with Dougherty adding two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Freshman forward Nate Santiago recorded six rebounds and a point while sophomore guard/forward James Thompson had one point
  • Lunetta had two points while freshman guard/forward Michael Leonardo pulled down three rebounds
  • The Eagles shot over 50 percent from the floor (41-of-80) and made 10 three-pointers while the Greyhounds struggled to shoot the ball, making just 20-of-61 field goal attempts (32.8 percent) and 3-of-26 three-pointers
  • Juniata also forced Moravian into 18 turnovers while committing just six turnovers in the contest
