Greyhounds Fall at Susquehanna in Landmark Conference Action

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's basketball squad fell to host Susquehanna University, 88-53, in Landmark Conference action on the road Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

  • The River Hawks scored the opening basket before a three-pointer from senior guard Danny Cooper gave the Hounds a 3-2 lead. The squads traded baskets twice with Moravian going ahead 7-6 on a jumper from sophomore forward Mike DiPietro at the 16:25 mark; however, Susquehanna scored on its next trip down the floor to take the lead for good
  • The River Hawks pushed their advantage out to 11 points at 21-10 with 11:05 remaining. The Greyhounds answered with an 11-2 run to pull within two points at 23-21 on a jumper from Cooper with 7:54 on the clock. Susquehanna moved back in front by seven points while sophomore forward Thomas Abato make it a four-point deficit at 32-28 with 3:16 left in the half. The River Hawks went on an 8-2 run to end the half and head into the locker room with a 40-30 advantage
  • Susquehanna kept its lead in double digits for the entire second half and led by as many as 37 points late in the contest 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had two players in double figures with Cooper netting 12 points including 10 in the first half to go along with three assists. Junior guard Nate Dougherty added 11 points and two boards
  • Freshman forward Nate Santiago finished with eight points while DiPietro contributed seven points, four rebounds and four assists. Freshman guard/forward Michael Leonardo netted six points to go with four boards while freshman guard/forward Antonio Montgomery had five points and three rebounds
  • Abato added five rebounds and two points while freshman forward Jack Saggio had two points and two boards and sophomore guards C.J. Weber and Justin LaBrusciano both had two rebounds
  • The River Hawks scored 68 of their 88 points in the lane while the Hounds had just 32 points in the paint. Susquehanna also scored 24 points off of turnovers while Moravian had just three
