Greyhounds Score Nine Second-Half Goals to Defeat Susquehanna in 2021 Landmark Conference Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team netted nine second-half goals to rally from an 8-4 halftime deficit to post a 13-11 victory over visiting Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Saturday afternoon as the Greyhounds began their 2021 conference schedule.

How It Happened

  • The River Hawks opened the scoring with 6:59 left in the first quarter and would score the only three goals of the opening 15 minutes
  • Junior midfielder Kevin Berlin opened the second quarter with a goal for Moravian just 55 seconds into action. The River Hawks netted two man-up goals around a tally from junior attack Griffin LeBlond to move ahead 5-2. The Greyhounds closed within a goal at 5-4 on a man-up goal from Cade Siddron before the River Hawks scored twice to head into the intermission with an 8-4 lead
  • Siddron started a string of four straight goals by the Hounds to begin the second half with junior midfielder Zach Bergeron scoring with 5:14 left in the third quarter to knot the score at 8-8. Susquehanna scored with just over a minute left in the period to retake the lead at 9-8 after 45 minutes of action
  • Siddron notched a man-up goal just 25 seconds into the fourth quarter to tie the contest again, and goals from junior attack Connor James, LeBlond and Siddron gave Moravian a 12-9 lead with 7:11 to go. The River Hawks pulled within a goal before James sealed the contest with another tally with just 1:38 remaining 

Inside the Numbers

  • Siddron led Moravian with five goals and two assists while James and LeBlond both tallied two goals and an assist. Freshman attack Trevor Dzama had one goal and two assists while Bergeron and junior midfielder Nick Nolder both had one goal and one assist and Berlin had one goal
  • Sophomore goalie Sean DeMott made eight saves for his third win of the season in goal, and he added three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Senior long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke led the Greyhounds with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers while senior defender Tanner Leslie had five ground balls and four caused turnovers in his first action of the season
  • Junior face-off specialist Ben Walek won nine face-offs to go with four ground balls while sophomore midfielder Jack Bakey and Nolder each scooped up four ground balls
  • The first quarter of the match was the first period this season that the Greyhounds had been held off of the scoreboard
