Moravian Tops Susquehanna in Landmark Conference Quarterfinals for First-Ever Postseason Victory

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The fifth seeded Moravian College men's lacrosse team rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to defeat host and fourth seed Susquehanna University, 18-12, in a Landmark Conference Quarterfinal match Saturday as the Greyhounds made their first-ever Landmark Conference Tournament appearance and earned the first postseason victory in program history.

How It Happened

  • The River Hawks scored the first four goals of the match before junior midfielder Zach Bergeron got the Greyhounds on the scoreboard. Senior attack Cade Siddron and junior attack Connor James each netted man-up goals as the Hounds pulled within a goal. Susquehanna scored to go up 5-3 before Moravian responded with three goals in the final 1:58 of the quarter to lead 6-5 after 15 minutes of action. Junior midfielder Nick Nolder scored the first goal while senior attack Connor Hull tied the match. James' second man-up goal with 18 seconds left in the period put Moravian ahead
  • The Blue and Grey started the second quarter with man-up goals by freshman attack Trevor Dzama and junior attack Griffin LeBlond, and LeBlond would net two more goals as the Greyhounds took a 10-5 lead. Susquehanna scored with just over seven minutes left in the quarter to make it a 10-6 contest before Moravian scored three more times to head to the intermission with a 13-6 edge after a goals Siddron, sophomore midfielder Shane Cassel and Bergeron
  • The Greyhounds had the first goal of the third quarter as well as senior midfielder Timothy Dwyer found the cage. The River Hawks scored three times to cut the Moravian lead to 14-9 after 45 minutes of action
  • Susquehanna scored the first goal of the fourth quarter before Siddron scored for the Hounds to give Moravian a 15-10 edge. The River Hawks scored again before LeBlond reestablished the five-goal lead with a tally at the 8:02 mark. Siddron netted another goal with 3:37 remaining, and James scored 30 seconds later for an 18-11 Greyhounds' lead before the River Hawks netted another goal but that would be it for the scoring 

Inside the Numbers

  • Siddron led Moravian with four goals and two assists while LeBlond had four goals and one assist. James added three goals and an assist while Bergeron netted two goals. Nolder contributed a goal and four assists while Hull had a goal and three assists
  • Dzama, Dwyer and Cassel each had one goal while freshman midfielder Justin Greene had an assist
  • Senior face-off specialist Max Towers was 17-for-28 on face-offs with a team-high 10 ground balls while Cassel added six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke had three ground balls and two caused turnovers while freshman defender Jacob Stetson and senior long stick midfielder Trevor Green both scooped up three ground balls
  • Sophomore goalie Sean DeMott recorded 12 saves in 52 minutes while freshman goalie Avery Napolitano had one save in eight minutes of action
