BETHLEHEM Pa. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse squad fell to visiting The Catholic University of America, 17-8, in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Wednesday as the Greyhounds played their final home match of the 2021 season and celebrated Senior Day.
How It Happened
- The Cardinals netted the first five goals of the match before junior midfielder Zach Bergeron scored the Hounds' first goal to make it a 5-1 contest after 15 minutes of action
- The squads combined for 11 goals in the second period with Catholic notching the first four to push its advantage to 9-2. Junior attack Connor James scored all three of Moravian's in the quarter including a shot that just beat the buzzer to end the half as the Cardinals held a 13-4 edge at the intermission
- It would take nearly 12 minutes for either team to score in the third quarter as senior attack Cade Siddron scored, and James followed with a man-up goal before Catholic scored once to lead 14-6 after 45 minutes of action
- The Hounds received goals from Bergeron and sophomore midfielder Jack Bakey in the fourth quarter but the Cardinals tallied three more goals
Inside the Numbers
- James led the Hounds with four goals to go with four ground balls while Bergeron netted two goals. Siddron and Bakey had the Blue and Grey's other two goals while junior midfielder Nick Nolder contributed three assists while senior attack Connor Hull, junior attack Griffin LeBlond and freshman midfielder Justin Greene each had one assist
- Senior face-off specialist Max Towers was 12-for-25 on face-offs with a team-high 10 ground balls while senior long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke had nine ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior defender Tanner Leslie also had three caused turnovers to go with three ground balls
- Sophomore goalie Sean DeMott made 17 saves for the Hounds
- Prior to the match, Moravian honored its eight seniors including Siddron, Hull, Towers, Schicke, Leslie, long stick midfielder Trevor Green, attack Connor Sablich and Timothy Dwyer. Green made his first career start and contributed two caused turnovers
