Greyhounds Come Up Short in Back-and-Forth Match with Elizabethtown College on John Makuvek Field

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College men's lacrosse squad rallied back from a four-goal second quarter deficit to tie the match three times in the second half before coming up a goal short in a 14-13 loss to visiting Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Wednesday. 

How It Happened

  • The Blue Jays scored the first two goals of the match sophomore midfielder Jack Bakey got Moravian on the scoreboard with 10:20 left in the first quarter. Senior attack Cade Siddron and junior attack Connor James followed with goals as James' man-up tally had Moravian leading 3-2 with 8:07 left in the period. Elizabethtown scored the next two goals to go back ahead, 4-3 before senior attack Connor Hull found the cage for the Blue and Grey. The Blue Jays added one more goal to lead 5-4 after 15 minutes of action
  • Elizabethtown also scored the first three goals of the second quarter to build its four-goal edge at 8-4. Junior attack Griffin LeBlond scored twice and Siddron added another goal as the Hounds closed within 8-7 at the intermission
  • Junior midfielder Zach Bergeron needed just 31 seconds into the second half to tie the match at 8-8. However, the Blue Jays ran off three straight goals before Bergeron finished the quarter with a goal that hit the net with 0.8 seconds left in the period
  • Bergeron added this third goal two and a half minutes as Moravian pulled within a goal at 11-10 before Elizabethtown scored. Hull and LeBlond netted goals as the Greyhounds tied the score at 12-12 with 6:19 to play. The Blue Jays needed just 33 seconds to move back in front. James knotted the contest again at 13-13 with a goal at the 4:27 mark before Elizabethtown scored what was the game-winning goal with 2:30 remaining 

Inside the Numbers

  • LeBlond led Moravian with three goals and two assists while Bergeron netted three goals. James added two goals and two assists while Siddron had two goals and an assist and Hulls scored twice. Bakey had one goal while freshman midfielder Justin Greene had his first career point with an assist on James' man-up goal
  • Sophomore goalie Sean DeMott made eight saves to go with a pair of ground balls
  • Senior face-off specialist Max Towers was 17-for-29 on face-offs with a game-high 11 ground balls while freshman defender Jacob Stetson had five ground balls
  • Senior long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke had four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while senior defender Tanner Leslie added three ground balls to give him 101 for his career and three caused turnovers
