No. 20 Moravian Splits with Lycoming in Landmark Conference Action

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The No. 20 Moravian University softball team split a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Lycoming College Friday, falling 6-2 in the first contest while winning the second game 9-0 in six innings.

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Warriors opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning
  • The Greyhounds got onto the scoreboard and tied the game with a run in the top of the third inning. Junior shortstop Holly Walter reached on an error and raced home on an RBI single from junior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys
  • The Blue & Grey took a 2-1 edge with a run in the top of the fourth as junior right fielder Sage Snyder led off with a single and scored on an RBI single from sophomore third baseman Sydney Andrews
  • Lycoming answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth to knot the contest at 2-2, and the Warriors used a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-2 lead
  • Senior Madi Cunningham made the start in the circle, and she allowed six runs, five earned, on six hits and a walk to go with seven strikeouts to become the 11th pitcher in program history to reach 200 career strikeouts. Freshman Kyra Holtje tossed the final inning with a walk 

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first frame in the second contest. Gawrys connected on a one out triple down the left field line, and sophomore catcher Marcie Silberman followed with an RBI double to right field to score Gawrys. Snyder reached on an error and raced all the way around the bases to score with Silberman on an RBI double from Andrews. Sophomore pitcher Natalie Otto ripped an RBI double down the left field line to bring in Andrew with the final run of the inning
  • The Blue & Grey extended the advantage to 5-0 with a run in the top of the fourth inning as Gawrys hit her first home run of the season and the eighth of her career with a solo shot to left field
  • Moravian scored four times in the top of the sixth to reach the NCAA eight-run rule. Gawrys drew a one-out walk and came home as Silberman connected on a two-run homer to left field, her team-leading sixth home run of the season and 12th of her career. Snyder singled while senior designated player Emily Silberman drew a walk before freshman Emma Grace Pachkowski came on to pinch run. Snyder raced home on an RBI single from Otto while Pachkowski scampered home with the final run on an error
  • Otto improved to 3-0 in the circle as she scattered three hits and struck out a career-high nine batters in her first collegiate shutout

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 19 hits on the day with Gawrys going 4-for-6 with three runs, an RBI, a triple and a homer
  • Andrews was 3-for-7 with three RBIs and a double while Snyder went 3-for-7 and scored three times
  • Marcie Silberman collected two hits, three RBIs, two runs a homer and a double while Emily Silberman had a pair of hits
  • Otto was 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a double
  • Junior left fielder Jessica Forder, freshman center fielder Shayla Morgan and freshman center fielder Leah Chladny all had one hit
  • Pachkowski and junior shortstop Holly Walter both crossed the plate once
