Hounds Sweep Elizabethtown as Otto Tosses Perfect Game & Marcie Silberman Blasts Two Homers

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University softball squad swept a Landmark Conference doubleheader from visiting Elizabethtown College with a pair of five inning victories at Blue & Grey Field Tuesday, winning 9-1 and 12-0.

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of the opener as junior shortstop Holly Walter led off with a double and scored on a throwing error after stealing third base
  • The Blue & Grey plated five runs in the bottom of the second for a 6-0 advantage. Senior second baseman Ajala Elmore started the inning with a single, and she raced around the bases to score on an RBI double from sophomore third baseman Sydney Andrews. After an out and a walk by senior pitcher Madi Cunningham, Walter ripped an RBI double to center field to score Andrews. Cunningham raced home on a passed ball while the final two runs of the inning scored on an error
  • Moravian made it 7-0 with a run in the third frame as Andrews doubled and crossed the plate on an RBI infield single from Walter
  • The Blue Jays got onto the scoreboard with a run in the top of the fourth inning
  • The Hounds answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth for an 8-1 edge. Junior left fielder Sage Snyder drew a leadoff walk and scored on an RBI single off Andrews' bat
  • The Greyhounds finished off the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fifth for the NCAA run rule. Junior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys singled with an out before freshman Leah Chladny came in to pinch run. Chladny crossed the plate on an RBI sacrifice fly by Snyder
  • Cunningham went the distance in the circle, allowing a run on four hits to go with one strikeout 

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Hounds scored six times in the bottom of the first inning in game 2. Walter reached on an error and raced home on an RBI double by Gawrys. Sophomore catcher Marcie Silberman followed with a two-run homer, her eighth of the season. Snyder was hit by a pitch before senior designated player Emily Silberman singled. After Chladny came in to run for Silberman, Elmore connected on a three-run homer, her third home run of the spring and eighth of her career
  • Moravian tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second. Marcie Silberman was hit by a pitch before Snyder doubled. Emily Silberman followed with a two-RBI single to score her sister and Synder
  • The Blue & Grey plated three runs in the bottom of the third for an 11-0 advantage. Freshman center fielder Shayla Morgan and Walter each singled, and they touched the plate when Marcie Silberman connected on a three-run homer, her ninth of the year and 15th of her career to move into ninth in program history
  • The Hounds finished the scoring with a run in the fourth inning as sophomore Sarah DeStefano hit a pinch hit single, and freshman Emma Grace Pachkowski came on to pinch run. Pachkowski raced home on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of senior pinch hitter Mya Zettlemoyer
  • Sophomore Natalie Otto tossed her first career perfect game and no-hitter in the circle, facing the minimum 15 batters and recording three strikeouts. The perfect game was the second in four days for the Hounds' pitching staff and the ninth in program history. Moravian has 38 no-hitters in program history 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 22 hits in the two games with Walter going 4-for-7 with four runs, two RBIs and two doubles
  • Marcie Silberman was 3-for-6 with three runs, five RBIs, a double and two home runs while Andrews was 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBIs and a pair of doubles
  • Elmore had a 2-for-5 day with two runs, three RBIs and a homer while Gawrys contributed two hits, two runs, an RBI and a double
  • Snyder registered two hits, three runs, three RBIs and a pair of doubles while Emily Silberman added two hits and two RBIs
  • Morgan had a hit and scored a run while DeStefano, sophomore Madison Berning and freshman Kyra Holtje all had one hit
  • Cunningham and Pachkowski each crossed the plate once
