LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- Moravian University sophomore catcher Marcie Silberman has been honored with a spot on the 2024 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-America Second Team announced at the 2024 NCAA Division III Championship Finals banquet in Marshall, Texas.
Silberman helped the Greyhounds to a 31-10 record this season as Moravian reached the postseason for the 29th straight spring and the second consecutive season under the guidance of second-year Head Coach Josh Baltz with the Hounds earning the top seed in the 2024 Landmark Conference Tournament after a 13-3 mark in the conference's regular season. Moravian would capture its 11th Landmark Conference title and make its 20th trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament this year with the Hounds hosting an NCAA Regional for the first time at Blue & Grey Field.
Silberman's award gives Moravian a total of nine student-athletes that have received 13 NFCA All-American honors. She is the third Greyhound catcher to be selected as an All-American.
"Congratulations to Scoot (Marcie) on earning 2nd team All-American honors," exclaimed Baltz! "She had an unbelievable offensive year, highlighted with 16 home runs, 15 doubles, and 52 RBIs in 41 games. Those production numbers are some of the best we have had in a single season. Defensively, she was behind the plate for 39 games, starting both ends of doubleheaders through most of the year. She had a fantastic year behind the plate; limiting opponents' running game, receiving well, and had a great relationship with our pitching staff. Scoot continues the stretch of great catchers we have had in our program and it is a great honor for Scoot to join the list of All-Americans!"
This spring, Silberman was selected to the Landmark Conference All-Conference First Team for the second consecutive spring. Silberman is also a two-time NFCA All-Region V Honoree, making the First Team in 2024 and the Second Team in 2023.
Silberman had a .348 batting average this spring to go with 48 hits, 31 runs, 15 doubles, a school and Landmark Conference record 16 home runs, 52 RBIs and a school record 111 total bases. Silberman posted 187 putouts and 18 assists in 207 chances in the field, and she had one pickoff and threw out 9-of-24 stolen base attempts.
