Big Third Quarter Leads Greyhounds to Win at Drew to Begin 2022 Landmark Conference Schedule

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse squad used an eight-goal third quarter to break open a close match and post a 19-10 victory at Drew University Saturday afternoon to begin the 2022 Landmark Conference season.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds scored the opening two goals of the match as junior attack Devin King and freshman attack Jackie Salvatore scored 11 seconds apart just four and a half minutes into the contest. The Rangers answered with a pair of goals to knot the score at 2-2. Salvatore pushed the Blue and Grey back in front while Drew tied the contest again at 3-3. Senior attack Eliza Fantazzi gave the Hounds the lead for good with 3:40 left in the first quarter, and senior midfielder Lindsey Strohl scored 30 seconds later as Moravian led 5-3 after 15 minutes of action
  • The Hounds netted two more goals to start the second quarter with junior midfielder Megan Donnelly and Salvatore finding the net. Strohl and Salvatore each scored once more in the period around three goals from the Rangers as the Blue and Grey headed to halftime with a 9-6 edge
  • Drew began the second half with a quick goal before Moravian ran off seven straight markers to take control of the contest. Freshman midfielder Alex Cherenson started the barrage before freshman attack Madi Dippel netted three straight goals in a span of 45 seconds. Fantazzi and Dippel both added another goal before junior attack Kendall Lomascola scored to make it a 16-7 match. Cherenson added one more tally before the end of the quarter as the Greyhounds lead 17-8 after 45 minutes of play
  • Moravian netted two goals in the fourth quarter as sophomore attack Lexi Robinson and Salvatore scored for a 19-8 edge on the way to the victory

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had nine different players score goals led by Salvatore, who had five goals and three assists to go with a pair of ground balls. Dippel tossed in four goals while Cherenson contributed two goals and an assist
  • Fantazzi and Strohl both netted two goals with Strohl adding seven draw controls and a pair of ground balls while King and Lomascola both had a goal and an assist. Robinson and Donnelly each had one goal with Donnelly contributing seven draw controls and four ground balls
  • Junior goalie Brelyn Friedman made five saves in 45 minutes of action while junior goalie Rylee Soltis added two saves in 15 minutes of play
  • Junior midfielder Emily Hoskin contributed four draw controls and a pair of ground balls
