Moravian Scores 13 Consecutive Goals to Top Goucher in Landmark Conference Action on Senior Day

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team broke open a 2-2 tie after the first quarter with 13 consecutive goals on the way to posting a 16-4 Landmark Conference victory over visiting Goucher College on Senior Day at John Makuvek Field Saturday. 

How It Happened

  • The Hounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 1:15 into the contest as senior attack Eliza Fantazzi found the cage. Moravian made it a 2-0 lead on a marker from junior midfielder Megan Donnelly with 2:33 on the clock. Goucher answered with a pair of goals in the final 1:45 of the period to knot the score at 2-2 after 15 minutes of action
  • The Blue and Grey took the lead for good at the 11:26 mark of the second quarter as senior midfielder Lindsey Strohl scored her first goal of the afternoon, and Donnelly added another tally about 30 seconds later. Moravian scored four more times before the intermission with goals by Strohl, Donnelly, junior attack Devin King and freshman attack Jackie Salvatore to head to halftime leading 8-2
  • The Greyhounds netted another five goals in the third period with Fantazzi scoring twice and Donnelly, Strohl and junior attack Kendall Lomascola tallying one goal as Moravian headed to the final quarter leading 13-2
  • Senior attack Kelsey Moore began the fourth period with a goal before sophomore defender Keara Reilly netted her first career marker. The Gophers finally scored again and netted a pair of goals before Strohl finished off the match with another goal
  • Prior to the contest, Moravian honored its seven seniors including Fantazzi, Strohl, Kelsey Moore, defender Meghan Moore, defender Eirean Perst, defender Samantha Cherenson and defender Jamie Bader

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had eight different goal scorers led by Donnelly, who had four goals and two assists to go with four ground balls, four caused turnovers and four draw controls. Strohl also netted four goals to go along with an assist and eight draw controls as she became the second player in program history to reach 250 career draw controls
  • Fantazzi contributed three goals and two assists while Salvatore had a goal, two assists, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. King added a goal, an assist and three ground balls while Kelsey Moore, Reilly and Lomascola all netted one goal with Moore scooping up four ground balls and Reilly causing a pair of turnovers
  • Bader had three ground balls and two caused turnovers while Meghan Moore scooped up three ground balls and Cherenson and Perst each added two ground balls
  • Junior Brelyn Friedman made the start in goal and had four saves in 44 minutes of action while junior Rylee Soltis made one save in the final 16 minutes of the contest
  • Moravian held a 42-10 advantage in shots, a 30-9 edge in ground balls and a 15-9 advantage in draw controls, and the Blue and Grey also went 18-for-21 on clearing attempts
