Moravian Holds Off Susquehanna to Remain Undefeated in Landmark Conference Action

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse squad held off a late charge to post a 16-15 victory at Susquehanna University in a Landmark Conference match on the road Saturday as the Greyhounds remained undefeated in conference action.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 2:10 into the contest on a goal from freshman attack Jackie Salvatore, and junior midfielder Megan Donnelly made it 2-0 just over a minute later. The River Hawks scored a pair of goals to knot the contest at 2-2 before Salvatore netted another marker for the 3-2 edge. Susquehanna picked up one more goal as the teams were tied at 3-3 after 15 minutes of action
  • The River Hawks netted the first two goals in the second quarter before senior attack Kelsey Moore and junior attack Devin King found the net to tie the match again at 5-5. Susquehanna scored a goal for a 6-5 advantage. Senior midfielder Lindsey Strohl netted a goal with a man-down and Donnelly scored twice as the Greyhounds took an 8-6 lead. The Rivers Hawks added a tally before senior attack Eliza Fantazzi hit a free position shot with just four seconds left in the half to send the Blue and Grey to the intermission with a 9-7 edge
  • Strohl began the second half with a goal, and Moravian had a tally from Moore and a pair of markers from Fantazzi while Susquehanna scored three times in the quarter as the Blue and Grey led 13-10 after 45 minutes of play. Fantazzi netted the final goal in the last 21 seconds of the period again
  • The River Hawks needed just 29 seconds to score at the start of the fourth quarter before Salvatore found the net. Susquehanna netted two more goals to pull within a goal at 14-13. Strohl answered with two goals for a 16-13 edge with 4:57 to play. The Rivers Hawks tallied the final two goals, pulling back within one with 1:15 still on the clock; however, the Greyhounds' defense did not allow anything else

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had six different players score with Strohl netting a team-high four goals to go with three draw controls. Donnelly finished with three goals, two assists, four draw controls and three ground balls while Fantazzi and Salvatore both had three goals and an assist with Salvatore scooping up two ground balls
  • Moore score two goals while King contributed a goal and an assist
  • Junior goalie Brelyn Friedman made 11 saves and added seven ground balls in her sixth win of the season
  • Senior defender Samantha Cherenson contributed five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while senior defender Eirean Perst had two ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control. Junior midfielder Emily Hoskin had three ground balls and a pair of draw controls
  • The Hounds had a 24-14 advantage in ground balls and went 21-for-26 on clearing attempts
