SCRANTON, Pa. --- The third seeded Moravian University women's lacrosse squad fell to host and second seed The University of Scranton, 24-13, in a Landmark Conference Semifinal match Wednesday evening.
How It Happened
- The Royals scored the first goal of the match while junior midfielder Megan Donnelly and freshman attack Jackie Salvatore netted goals for the Greyhounds to give Moravian a 2-1 edge just 3:24 into action. Scranton netted another goal, and Donnelly answered 16 seconds later as the Blue and Grey led 3-2 at the 10:30 mark. The Royals put two goals in the net to take a 4-3 advantage while Donnelly netted a goal for a hat trick at the 2:44 mark to knot the score again at 4-4. Scranton scored the final goal of the period to lead 5-4 after 15 minutes of action
- Scranton opened the second period with three goals before tallies from senior Lindsey Strohl and Donnelly had Moravian cut the deficit to 8-6. The Royals netted a goal before freshman attack Alex Cherenson scored for the Hounds. Scranton finished the half with three more goals to hold a 13-7 lead heading into the intermission
- The Royals scored three goals to begin the second half. Moravian countered with goals from freshman midfielder Madi Dippel, Strohl and Donnelly to make it 16-10. The squads traded the last four goals of the third quarter with Strohl and senior attack Eliza Fantazzi as Scranton led 18-12 after 45 minutes of play
- The fourth quarter saw the Royals score six of seven goals with senior midfielder Kelsey Moore netting a goal for the Hounds
- Wednesday's match was the fourth consecutive Landmark Conference Tournament that saw Moravian and Scranton face-off in the semifinals
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had seven different goal scorers with Donnelly leading the squad with five goals and two assists to go with a pair of draw controls
- Strohl netted three goals to go along with 12 draw controls. Strohl finishes the season with 109 draw controls, the second most in a season in school history, and she also completes her career tied for the school record with 285 draw controls, equaling the school mark set by Jillian Picciuto '19. Strohl also had 143 goals and 157 points in her career, both second in program history
- Salvatore contributed a goal and three assists to go with a pair of caused turnovers while Cherenson had a goal, an assist, six draw controls and two ground balls
- Fantazzi, Dippel and Moore all had one goal with Dippel and Moore each scooping up two ground balls
- Junior goalie Brelyn Friedman made ten saves to go with a pair of ground balls
- Moravian had a 23-18 edge in draw controls in the match
