Moravian and Scranton Combine for 22 Second Half Goals as Greyhounds Drop 2022 Home Finale

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team trailed visiting The University of Scranton, 5-3, at halftime in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Saturday afternoon before the teams combined for 22 goals in the second half with the Royals defeating the Greyhounds 18-12. 

How It Happened

  • Scranton opened the scoring nearly three minutes into action. The Hounds scored twice in the final two minutes of the quarter with goals from junior midfielder Megan Donnelly and junior attack Kendall Lomascola as the Blue & Grey led 2-1 after 15 minutes of action
  • The Royals netted the first goal of the second quarter before Lomascola scored at the 9:13 mark to put Moravian back ahead, 3-2. Scranton would answer with three goals in the final 2:48 of the half as they headed to the intermission with a 5-3 lead
  • The Royals opened the high-scoring second half with two goals to push the advantage to 7-3 before senior midfielder Lindsey Strohl snapped the Greyhounds' scoring drought 1:52 into the period. Strohl scored a total of four goals in the quarter, and Moravian also had a tally from freshman attack Jackie Salvatore. However, Scranton had eight total goals to lead 13-8 after 45 minutes of play
  • Lomascola began the fourth quarter with a goal, and she had two in the period with Moravian scoring a total of four times, but the Royals netted five goals in the final 15 minutes 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had four different goal scorers with Strohl netting a team-high five goals to go with an assist, three ground balls, three draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Lomascola scored four goals, all on free position shots while Salvatore had two goals and Donnelly contributed a goal, two assists, six draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers
  • Junior midfielder Emily Hoskin had an assist and a draw control while junior attack Devin King added an assist
  • Senior defender Meghan Moore scooped up three ground balls while senior defender Samantha Cherenson and sophomore defender Olivia Williams both had two ground balls
  • Junior goalie Brelyn Friedman registered four saves in 35 minutes of action while junior goalie Rylee Soltis posted four saves in 25 minutes of play
  • The Hounds had a 21-15 advantage in ground balls
