BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw to open up the 2017 campaign in non-conference action against Cortland State University on John Makuvek Field Friday evening.

"I was very pleased with our overall effort and the fact we kept our level of play high for a majority of the game," commented Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "Defensively we did what we needed to do but our attacking play needs to improve. When you create nine corners, you need to put one away."

The Greyhounds would get seven shots off with two opportunities coming in the 15th minute off the feet of junior midfielder Shae Duka and junior forward Gabby Stelzmiller. The Blue and Grey would get another shot on goal by junior forward Aimee Manley in the 24th minute but end with a scoreless first half.

Moravian finished regulation with a 12-9 advantage on shots taken and an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks, but could not manage to find the back of the net. The Hounds would get three more shots combined between both overtime period, one blasted off the right foot of Stelzmiller in the 107th minute that was saved. The Greyhounds would end the night leading 5-2 in shots on goal, 15-10 on total shots and 9-0 in corner kicks.

Greyhounds' senior goalie Jessica Lawton made one save while playing the first half of the match while sophomore keeper Jamie Daly had one save in the remainder of the contest.

"It's a positive start to the season considering how well we played against a traditionally very strong program," Ykoruk concluded.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Sunday, September 3 in a non-conference match on John Makuvek Field against Bryn Mawr College starting at 2:00 p.m.
