Hounds Blank Alvernia, 3-0, for Fourth Straight Shutout

READING, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team posted its fourth straight shutout to start the 2017 season as the Greyhounds earned a 3-0 win at Alvernia University Saturday afternoon.

The Hounds, who are 3-0-1, extended their shutout streak to 380 minutes as freshman goalie Siobhan O'Sullivan-Evangelista and senior keeper Jessica Lawton combined on the clean sheet with O'Sullivan-Evangalista making one save in the first half and Lawton recording two saves in the final 45 minutes of action.

Moravian jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute when junior forward Amiee Manley netted her first goal for the Greyhounds after transferring to Moravian this fall. Freshman Jordan Beneducci found the back of the net for the second time this fall in the 35th minute when she knocked in a pass from junior forward Gabby Stelzmiller.

The Hounds would add an insurance goal just 1:10 into the second half when freshman forward Oonagh Breen drilled in a pass from Stelzmiller for her second goal of the season. The Blue and Grey finished the afternoon with a 13-6 advantage in shots and a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Wednesday, September 13 when the squad hosts rival Muhlenberg College in a non-conference match on John Makuvek Field beginning at 7:00 p.m.
