TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College junior Eiman Nazif and sophomore Emma Angle have been selected to the 2019 Landmark Women's Tennis All-Conference First Team in singles while junior Lauren Steinert and sophomore Brooke Adams were named to the All-Conference Second Team in singles, Steinert and sophomore Mary Angle were honored on the All-Conference Second Team in doubles, and Director of Tennis Aaron Wilf was selected as the Coach of the Year.
In his first season in Bethlehem, Wilf, along with assistant coaches Mariana Freitas, Chris Conrad and Lewis Cooper, has guided the Greyhounds to 19-1 record this season, a program mark for victories in a year, a 7-0 Landmark Conference regular season record, the 2019 Landmark Conference Championship, the fourth Landmark title for the program, and a berth in the 2019 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament beginning on Friday, May 10, Moravian's third NCAA Tournament appearance.
"Congratulations to Aaron and his staff on this well-deserved honor," commented Director of Athletics & Recreation Mary Beth Spirk. "Both the men's and women's tennis programs had tremendous years, with the women having one of the best years in school history. The coaching staff has a great mix of youth and experience which really meshes well with this women's team. As a first-year head coach here at Moravian, Aaron has made his mark. We hope for continued success moving forward."
Angle, who was on the All-Conference Second Team a year ago, is 15-2 this year while playing first singles. She also has a 16-3 doubles mark this season including an 11-3 mark with Nazif at first doubles and a 3-0 slate with Adams at second doubles. Angle has a 22-10 career singles mark, and she is 22-12 all-time in doubles action.
"Emma has been huge for us all year," Wilf said. "Her play at the #1 singles position has been outstanding and that's a big reason for our team success. We know the kind of effort we'll get with her day in and day out and we know she'll continue to do great things for our program."
Nazif, who was named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in 2017, has posted a 13-0 singles slate at second singles this season. Nazif has a career singles mark of 27-3, and she is 21-11 in doubles action in her career.
"Eiman had such a solid year for us playing primarily at the #2 position," Wilf explained. "Her performance in the singles this year was really incredible as she gave us so much at the top part of our lineup. We can't wait to see what her senior year has in store for us."
Steinert, who garnered a spot on the All-Conference Second Team in singles last season, has recorded a 19-0 mark while playing fourth singles, and she has a 15-5 slate at second doubles with Mary Angle with the duo playing second doubles this year. Steinert is 33-12 in her career as a singles player and 38-15 in doubles action, tied for the tenth most doubles wins in school history.
"Lauren had a remarkable year for us going a perfect 19-0 in singles play to this point, stated Wilf. "She is a co-captain and put together one of the best individual seasons ever for a Moravian tennis player. Her will to win was impressive and her passion on the court was unmistakable."
Adams, who makes a return to the All-Conference Second Team, is 18-0 in singles action this year at fifth singles, and Adams also had a 14-4 doubles mark this season including 8-3 at third doubles with sophomore Kristen Cassidy. Adams has posted career records of 29-5 in singles and 23-10 in doubles.
"Brooke put together a stellar season for us this year," noted Wilf. "She was automatic for us at the #5 singles position going undefeated on the season. She continues to be so vital for this team and is a huge reason for the team excelling this year."
The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Friday, May 10 when the squad plays Cairn University in the First Round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Tournament at Middleburg (Vt.) College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
