Hounds Get Hat Trick from Ambrosino in Shutout Win over Wilkes

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University field hockey squad earned its first Landmark Conference win of the 2024 season as the Greyhounds defeated visiting Wilkes University, 3-0, on John Makuvek Field Saturday on a hat trick from junior forward Gia Ambrosino.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds needed just 22 seconds to opening the scoring as the squad earned a penalty corner on the first offensive set of the match. Ambrosino knocked in a crossing pass from senior forward Sydney Anderson for a 1-0 advantage
  • Early in the second quarter, Moravian was awarded a penalty stroke with Ambrosino putting the shot inside the left post for a 2-0 edge in the 20th minute
  • Neither squad scored during the third quarter
  • Ambrosino finished off her hat trick 1:40 into the final period when she scored on another penalty stroke shot, this time inside the right post

Inside the Numbers

  • Ambrosino now has a team-leading eight goals this fall, and 16 goals in her career including six game-winning goals. The hat trick was the first for Ambrosino, and it is the 14th hat trick in program history and first since Anderson had one on October 29, 2022
  • Anderson posted her second assist of the fall and 11th of her career
  • Sophomore goalie Maia Machado recorded one save in her second shutout of 2024 and sixth of her career
  • The Blue & Grey finished the afternoon with a 15-2 advantage in shots and an 11-1 edge in penalty corners
