GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. --- The Moravian University field hockey team rallied from an early first quarter deficit to defeat host Gwynedd Mercy University, 2-1, in overtime Wednesday evening.
How It Happened
- The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in the tenth minute of the contest
- The Greyhounds knotted the match at 1-1 in the 28th minute as senior forward Sydney Anderson knocked in a pass from junior midfielder Megan Felmly on a penalty corner
- Neither squad found the cage in the third quarter as the score remained tied at 1-1 after 45 minutes of action
- Moravian had a chance to take the lead with just over ten minutes left when junior forward Gia Ambrosino took a penalty stroke, but the shot sailed wide right
- The squads headed to overtime with the contest tied at 1-1
- Ambrosino finished the contest as she knocked a rebound into the cage in the 68th minute. Anderson had taken a shot on a penalty corner, and the ball bounced to Ambrosino off the save
Inside the Numbers
- Anderson's goal was her second of the season and the 34th of her career as she moved into a tie for second in program history in career goals
- Ambrosino tallied her team-leading fourth goal of 2024 and the 12th marker of her career
- Felmly notched her second assist of the fall and her career
- Sophomore goalie Maia Machado did not make a save in her second win of the season
- The Blue & Grey held a 12-3 edge in shots and a 19-4 advantage in penalty corners
