C.J. Barnes selected as Landmark Conference Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior guard C.J. Barnes has been selected as the Landmark Conference Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.

Barnes helped the Hounds to a 1-1 week to close out the first half of the season, and he also became the Greyhounds' 24th 1,000-point scorer. Barnes averaged 18.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 9-of-24 from the floor, 7-for-17 beyond the three-point line and 11-for-11 at the foul line to go along with five assists. Barnes had 13 points, four boards and three assists in an 85-78 loss to Yeshiva University while playing 32 minutes. He finished the week with 23 points, seven rebounds and two assists in an 83-70 win over Immaculata University. With 4:01 remaining in the game, Barnes drilled the first of three free throws for his 1,000-point milestone, and his perfect week at the foul line improved his career free throw percentage to 86.0, currently first in the Moravian record book.

"C.J. has worked very hard and given a lot to Moravian basketball over the past four years," commented first-year Head Coach Shawn Postiglione. "He has been a positive influence as a senior leader this season and continues to help our program on and off the court. We are happy for C.J. that he has earned this career milestone and look forward to seeing he and the rest of the team continue to build on our progress in 2020."

Moravian, which headed into its holiday break with a 6-4 overall record and a 1-0 slate in Landmark Conference play, is slated to return to action on Saturday, January 4, 2020 when the squad hosts the first day of the 40th Steel Club Classic in Johnston Hall. The Greyhounds will play Ithaca (N.Y.) College on the opening day with tip-off set for 4:30 p.m. following the two women's contests.
