Greyhounds Fall at Home to Drew in Landmark Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team had five players in double figures but the Greyhounds fell to visiting Drew University, 98-83, in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening.

Senior guard C.J. Barnes had a game-high 25 points to go with seven rebounds to lead the Hounds while freshman guard Greg Eck tossed in 14 points to go with five boards. Senior forward John Hargraves netted 13 points to go with a pair of steals while junior guards Matt O'Connor and Deandre Tillett each scored 10 points with O'Connor adding five rebounds and three assists and Tillett, who reached double digits for the first time in his career, had two assists and two steals.

Senior forward Addis Ralph contributed eight points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocked shots while senior guard Matt Martino added five assists, three points and two boards.

Barnes opened the scoring, and the Blue and Grey had a 7-2 lad after O'Connor's first three-pointer of the contest. O'Connor hit a lay-up on a fast break for a 9-4 edge before Drew came back and took a 10-9 lead. Ralph put the Greyhounds back in front with a lay-up at the 14:07 mark before a 6-0 run from the Rangers had Drew in the lead for good. Moravian closed within a point at 28-27 on a lay-up from Hargraves with 7:22 until the intermission but the Rangers would open up a 15-point edge before heading to the locker room leading 50-37.

Early in the second half, Eck connected on a lay-up and a three-pointer followed by a jumper from Barnes as the Hounds pulled within six points, 52-46, three minutes into action. However, Drew would score 22 of the next 29 points to open a 21-point edge with just under 10 minutes remaining. Moravian was unable to get any closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, January 25 when the squad hosts Goucher College in a Landmark Conference contest tipping off at 2:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall. The Hounds will host their annual Alumni Game at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
