Greyhounds Drop First Landmark Conference Contest of Season at Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team suffered its first Landmark Conference loss of the season, falling to host The University of Scranton, 89-69, Wednesday evening.

The Greyhounds had a pair of players in double figures led by junior guard Matt O'Connor, who tossed in 24 points to go with three steals. Senior guard C.J. Barnes scored 16 points to go along with a team-high six rebounds and two assists while senior forward Addis Ralph had eight points, five boards and a pair of steals.

Senior guard Mike Martino contributed six points, four assists and three rebounds while junior guard Deandre Tillett added five points and two rebounds. Freshman guard Nate Dougherty and senior forward John Hargraves each netted four points with Dougherty grabbing three rebounds and dishing out two assists and Hargraves adding two steals. Freshman guard Dylan Parrishad two points.

The Royals scored first on a free throw before O'Connor scored the first field goal of the contest. O'Connor's second of four three-pointers had the Blue and Grey holding a 10-5 lead four minutes into action before a 10-2 run from Scranton flipped the edge to the Royals, 15-12. Martino drained a three-pointer to five the Hounds the lead again at 20-19, and Moravian was up 22-21 on a lay-up from Dougherty. The Royals moved back in front, and Barnes connected on a three-pointer with just under five minutes left in the first half to cut it to a 32-31 lead for the Royals. Scranton then finished the half on a 15-2 run to head to the locker room with a 47-33 edge.

In the second half, Barnes hit a trey to make it a 14-point game again at 50-36 before the Royals had a 16-4 run to take the lead above 20 points for the remainder of the contest.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, January 18 when the squad heads to Juniata College for a Landmark Conference contest beginning at 2:00 p.m.
