Hounds Fall Behind Early in Landmark Conference Loss at Drew

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team fell behind host Drew University by 15 points early before dropping an 82-68 decision in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening.

The Greyhounds, now 10-10 overall and 5-4 in Landmark Conference play, had a pair of players in double figures with junior guard Matt O'Connor tying his career high with 27 points while grabbing a career best tying nine rebounds and dishing out two assists. O'Connor was 7-for-14 beyond the three-point line as the Greyhounds made 15-of-36 three-pointers in the contest. Freshman guard Greg Eck tossed in 20 points to go with four boards.

Senior guard C.J. Barnes contributed seven points, six rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocked shots while senior forward Addis Ralph also netted seven points to go with five boards and two blocked shots. Senior guard Mike Martino dished out seven assists and added six points and two rebounds while freshman guard Nate Doughertyhad one point. Senior forward John Hargraves pulled down nine rebounds while junior guard Deandre Tillett added three assists and two points.

Drew scored the game's first 15 points in just 2:34 of action, and the Hounds didn't get on the scoreboard until a jumper by O'Connor at 16:10. However, the Blue and Grey would close within four points at 20-16 on a three-pointer by O'Connor just four minutes later. The Rangers answered and pushed their lead back up to 14 points before a late three-pointer from Eck cut it to an eight-point game at the intermission with Drew holding a 46-38 edge.

Eck opened the scoring in the second half with a jumper and after a three-pointer and jumper from O'Connor, Moravian trailed just 48-45 with just over 17 minutes to play. Drew went on a 13-2 run to push the advantage back to 14 points. The Greyhounds were unable to get any closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

The Hounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, February 8 when the squad hosts Juniata College in a Landmark Conference game tipping off at 4:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
