Moravian Shuts Out Stevenson for First Win of 2023 at Athey Cup

CHESTERTOWN, Md. --- The Moravian University men's soccer team earned its first win of the 2023 season Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over Stevenson (Md.) University in the second round of the Athey Cup at Washington (Md.) College.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds netted their first goal of the season at the 23-minute mark when junior forward Jakob Braman knocked in a crossing pass from junior midfielder Hunter Shay
  • The contest would remain 1-0 for the Hounds for the rest of the opening half
  • Moravian doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the 67th minute as freshman midfielder Giuseppe Propato scored off another setup pass from Shay for the final marker of the match 

Inside the Numbers

  • The goals for Braman and Propato were the first of their collegiate careers while Shay now has four career assists
  • Senior goalie Andrew Remias made a career-high eight saves his second straight shutout. Remias now has seven career shutouts
  • Freshman defender Aidan McMillan cleared a shot off the goal line in the 61st minute for a team save
  • The Hounds had a 13-12 edge in shots while both teams took four corner kicks
  • Remais and Shay were selected to the Athey Cup All-Tournament Team along with senior defender Vito Leone and junior defender Kyle Weiss
