TOWSON, Md. --- The 2019-20 Moravian College men’s indoor track and field squad has been picked first overall in the Landmark Conference preseason poll as chosen by the Landmark coaches.
The Greyhounds return 25 student-athletes from last year’s Landmark Conference Championship team as well as adding 14 new competitors. The Hounds received a total of 60 points, which was 15 more than the next closest team in the poll, which was Elizabethtown College, and six first-place votes. Moravian has won 10 straight Landmark Conference Indoor Championships and 11 of the first 12 Landmark Conference titles.
Ninth-year Head Coach Jesse Baumann has a veteran group of returners led by nine returning All-Conference student-athletes led by senior Greg Jaindl, who won the 5,000-meter run as was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter run. Other returning All-Conference performers include seniors Ryan Harper, Justin Beasley-Turner and Evan Lutz, juniors Shane Mastro, Sean McFarland and Peter Gingrich and sophomores Max Schuman and Taylor Porter McPherson.
“For the most part, we are well represented across all events,” commented Baumann. “We’re a little thinner than I’d like in a few areas, but we at least have athletes I feel are capable of contending for All-Conference honors in virtually every event by February. In addition, I think we can have a strong showing at least at the AARTFC meet in March, and possibly NCAAs if we stay focused during the winter break. We preach this message all the time that we don’t want Landmarks to be the “end all, be all” for our program. If we have the focus on other meets like AARTFC / NCAAs, then we’ll prepare ourselves to at least be in contention for winning Landmarks in February.”
The Greyhounds will begin the season at Lehigh University Opener on Saturday, December 7.
