READING, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team posted 16 top 10 finishes in the meet including a pair of runner-up showings at the non-scoring Alvernia University PLEX Shootout Saturday.
Sophomore Max Schuman was second in the pole vault at a height of 4.10 meters (13-5.25) while freshman Sherwin Stewart was the runner-up in the triple jump with a distance of 12.83 meters (42-1.25).
Senior Ryan Harper finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 15.48 meters (50-9.5), and he also took tenth in the shot put with a mark of 12.45 meters (40-10.25). Junior Shane Mastro took seventh in the weight throw at 14.11 meters (46-3.5) while junior Derek Scott was ninth in the event at 13.26 meters (43-6). Sophomore Taylor Porter McPherson rounded out the field results with an eighth place in the high jump, clearing 1.71 meters (5-7.25) in his first time competing in the event in college.
Stewart and Porter McPherson combined with senior Evan Lutz and junior Sean McFarland to finish sixth in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:35.12. Moravian also had a pair of teams run in the 4x400-meter relay with the quartet of senior Alex Tursi, junior Peter Gingrich, sophomore Dominic DeRafelo and freshman Darlyn Fermin finish in fourth at 3:34.04, and the group of senior Justin Beasley-Turner, sophomore Brad Clemson and freshmen Bryce Feddeman and Elias Aviles place seventh in a time of 3:41.88.
Gingrich finished fourth in the mile run with a time of PR time of 4:31.09 while Fermin was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:00.21 with DeRafelo following in fifth in a PR time of 2:00.67. DeRafelo was also fourth in the 5,000-meter run in 16:06.58 and followed by freshman Liam Duffy in ninth in a time of 16:20.56 and sophomore Michael Lerch at tenth in a PR of 16:33.66.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Friday, February 14 when the squad head to the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, New York for the Fasttrack National Invitational.
