Fermin & Mastro Win Events in Kutztown Last Chance Qualifier

KUTZTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's indoor track & field squad won a pair of events and posted six personal best results at the Kutztown University Last Chance Qualifier Friday evening.

Freshman Darlyn Fermin won the mile run with a PR of 4:29.20 while junior Shane Mastro captured the shot put with a PR distance of 14.95 meters (49-0.75). Mastro was also fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 14.63 meters (48-0) while sophomore Tim King was third with a PR of nearly three meters as his fifth toss of the event went 15.40 meters (50-6.25), the 14th best throw in school history.

Junior Derek Scott was sixth in the weight throw with a PR toss of 14.00 meters (45-11.25) while freshman Dan Jenkins was 11th at 11.99 meters (39-4) and freshman Adam Gildea finished 14th with a PR of 10.05 meters (32-11.75). Senior Ryan Harper was eighth in the shot out with a distance of 13.09 meters (42-11.5) while Scott finished ninth at 11.97 meters (39-3.25), Jenkins took 10th at 11.78 meters (38-7.75) and King was 14th at 10.68 meters (35-0.5).

Freshman Sherwin Stewart finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.40 meters (40-8.25), and he was also 12th in the long jump at 6.19 meters (20-1.75). Senior Nicholas Cephas led the Greyhounds in the long jump with a PR distance of 6.25 meters (20-6.25) to finish ninth while sophomore Max Schuman was 16th with a mark of 5.74 meters (18-10). Schuman also finished fifth in the pole vault at a height of 4.22 meters (14-0) while junior John Stires was 14th at 3.66 meters (12-0).

Cephas was second in the preliminaries of the 55-meter hurdles with a PR of 8.20 seconds before finishing third in the finals in 8.24 seconds. Freshman Ethan Cherubin was tenth in the race in 8.86 seconds while sophomore Richard Glennon was 13th in 9.96 seconds. Cherbin also placed 14th in the 55-meter dash in 7.12 seconds.

Sophomore Dominic DeRafelo finished fifth behind Fermin in the mile with a time 4:38.53 while freshman Bryce Feddeman was 12th with a PR of 4:45.95 and senior Devon Fogel was 16th in 4:57.57. DeRafelo also took sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:05.95 while sophomore Michael Lerch finished eighth in 2:06.72 followed by freshman Liam Duffy in ninth at 2:07.39, senior Alex Tursi in 11th at a time of 2:08.26, freshman Elias Aviles in 13th in 2:09.08 and Fogel in 16th in 2:13.31. Junior Billy Milburn was 13th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:41.81 to begin the meet.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, February 29 when the team heads to Susquehanna University for the 2020 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships as Greyhounds look to win their 12th Landmark title in the 13th year of the conference.
