Women's Tennis Falls to Rival Muhlenberg

The Moravian College women's tennis team closed out the fall portion of its 2011-12 season with a 7-2 loss to rival Muhlenberg College Thursday afternoon in the Greyhounds first road dual match of the year. With the victory, the Mules take a 2-1 lead in the annual Matte Award standings between the schools.

Muhlenberg had a 3-0 lead after the doubles action with Moravian's third doubles squad of sophomore Erica Venuti and freshman Sophia Osbourne posting the closest score with an 8-3 loss.

The Greyhounds picked up a pair of singles wins with junior Chelsea Ott posting a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nina Sanders at first singles, and sophomore Olivia Sonnabend, pictured, earning a 6-3, 6-3 win over Lauren Barnett at sixth singles to finish the contest. Osbourne fell 7-5, 6-2 in her fourth singles match.

Moravian is scheduled to get back on the courts in early March when the squad heads to Hilton Head, South Carolina for its Spring Break trip. The Greyhounds' opponents on the trip have yet to be determined.
