Womens Tennis Competes In First Day Of USTA-ITA Southeast Regional

The Moravian College women's tennis team sent three players to the 2011 United States Tennis Association-Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Southeast Regional being hosted at The University of Mary Washington.

Junior Chelsea Ott, was selected to participate in the championship flight. Ott fell to second seeded Courtney Chin from Carnegie Mellon University in the opening the round, and Chin posted a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 win. In the consolation bracket, Ott defeated Bethany Daller from Washington College, 8-4, in the opening round, before a bye. Ott will take on ninth seeded Jillian Poppe from Salisbury University Sunday morning in the consolation round of 16.

Freshman Carly Agrifolio was selected as the top seed in the Blue 3 Singles bracket, and she had a bye in the first round. Agrifolio earned a 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5) win over Amanda von Taube from Muhlenberg College in the quarterfinals, and she will play Leslie Bowie from Stevenson University in the semifinals on Sunday at 8:00 a.m.

Sophomore Erica Venuti is competing in the Blue 4 Singles bracket, and she won a pair of matches on the opening day of the tournament Saturday. Venuti topped Dea Alahos from York College of Pennsylvania, 8-4, in the first round, and she defeated Morgan Parks of Randolph Macon College, 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Venuti is scheduled to play Jolie Dudley from Christopher Newport University in the semifinals on Sunday at 8:00 a.m.
