NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Former Moravian University student-athlete Christina Scherwin '05, an NCAA Division III track & field national champion and Olympian, has been inducted into the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III Track & Field Athlete Hall of Fame.

Scherwin, who was selected to the Moravian Hall of Fame in 2015 and the Middle Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame in 2017, was a three-year standout on Greyhound women's track & field squad. Not only was she a two-time NCAA Division III National Champion in the javelin at Moravian, Scherwin competed in both the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece and the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China for her native Denmark. She was 29th in the javelin in 2004 and 44th in 2008. During her international career, Scherwin finished as high as fourth at the 2005 World Championships.

"It is absolutely one of the highlights of my career to be inducted into the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame," commented Scherwin from her home in Connecticut. "I am incredibly honored and honestly, I was blown away by the news. There are a lot of stellar athletes in the NCAA and USATF and I am very humbled to be able to join the class of 2022."

In addition to competing in the Olympics, Scherwin's international career also saw her win the Danish national javelin championship seven times and Denmark's national shot put title four times as she won both titles in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008. At one time, Scherwin held the Danish national record in the shot put, and she continues to hold her home country's national record in the javelin with a career-best throw of 64.83 meters (212-8) in Stuttgart, Germany in September 2006 in the World Athletics Final.

At Moravian, Scherwin won the NCAA Division III title in the javelin in 2002 and 2003, missing the 2001 meet due to an injury and the 2004 championships while training for the Olympics. In addition to setting what is still the NCAA Division III meet record in 2003 with a toss of 55.34 meters (181-7), Scherwin also earned All-America honors in the shot put both indoors and outdoors in 2003 and she competed in the event outdoors in 2002 with a ninth-place finish.

Scherwin captured seven Middle Atlantic Conference titles in just four meets, winning the shot put both indoors and outdoors in 2002 and 2003, the javelin both years and the discus outdoors in 2003. She also finished as the runner-up in the high jump at the MAC indoor meet in 2003 and was third in the long jump in the same meet. Scherwin was a two-time winner of the College Women's Javelin Throw at the prestigious Penn Relays.

After finishing her international career, Scherwin moved into coaching, spending time on the staff at the University of Oregon working with the Ducks' javelin throwers.
