Moravian Sweeps Baruch to Close Out 19th Greyhound Premiere Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 sweep over Baruch (N.Y.) College Saturday afternoon in Johnston Hall to close out the 19th Greyhound Premiere Invitational.

How It Happened

  • Baurch scored the first two points in the opening set, and the game went back-and-forth before being tied at 6-6. The Blue and Grey scored five straight points for an 11-6 edge, and the Hounds slowly pulled away for a 25-17 opening set win
  • Moravian jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the second set before the Bearcats closed within two points at 14-12. The Greyhounds pushed the lead back to six points, and held on for a 25-18 set victory
  • The Blue and Grey moved in front early again in the third set with an 8-2 advantage; however, Baruch rallied back to move ahead 13-12. Five straight points for Moravian put the Hounds back in the lead for good as the Greyhounds went on to earn a 25-20 set victory to complete the sweep 

Inside the Numbers

  • Sophomore right side hitter Makenzie Krasley led Moravian with eight kills while junior outside hitter Hannah Hayes had six kills and five digs
  • Senior setter Natalia Matos was selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player after running the Greyhounds' offense with 23 assists and 14 digs while senior libero Gabby Mancini earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team with 10 digs, six service aces and five assists against the Bearcats
  • Freshman outside hitter Caroline Melillo, sophomore middle blocker Jenna Deegan and junior middle blocker Grace Silfani each had five kills in the match with Deegan adding six digs
  • Junior middle blocker Autumn Marrero contributed four service aces and three kills while junior defensive specialist Allie Ludlow added 10 digs and freshman defensive specialist Tamara Vasquez had eight digs
