Hounds Drop Landmark Conference Match at Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at The University of Scranton in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening. 

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first set before the Royals countered with eight of the next nine points to take an 8-3 edge. Scranton took the opening set 25-9 to begin the contest
  • The Blue & Grey scored first in the second set as well and led 5-3 when the Royals rattled off four straight points to take the lead for good on the way to a 25-15 set victory
  • The third set was similar to the second game with Moravian up 5-3 before Scranton took an 8-5 advantage. This time the Hounds countered with a 5-0 run to go up 10-8. Scranton had a three-point cushion at 19-16 before the Greyhounds scored nine of the final 12 points to earn a 25-22 set win and pull within a game at 2-1
  • Moravian had an early 4-2 edge in the fourth set and the Blue & Grey tied the set at 8-8 before the Royals began to pull away for a 25-17 set victory to capture the overall match 

Inside the Numbers

  • Sophomore outside hitter Jenna Deegan led the Hounds with 12 kills to go with a pair of digs while sophomore right side hitter Makenzie Krasley had eight kills and three digs
  • Junior middle blocker Autumn Marerro contributed four kills, four digs and four service aces while junior right side hitter Sophie Bauer also had four kills. Junior middle blocker Grace Silfani posted three kills and a pair of assists while freshman outside hitter Caroline Melillo added two kills
  • Senior setter Natalia Matos recorded 16 assists and four digs in the match while senior libero Gabby Mancini had 14 digs and a pair of assists
  • Freshman setter Ally Plitnick contributed eight assists and four digs while junior defensive specialist Emily Szy had seven digs. Junior defensive specialist Kat DeYesso added six digs while junior defensive specialist Allie Ludlow had four digs
