Moravian Splits Tri-Match at Rutgers-Camden with Immaculata

CAMDEN, N.J. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball squad split a tri-match hosted by Rutgers-Camden as the Greyhounds swept Immaculata University, 3-0, before falling to the host Scarlet Raptors, 3-1, Sunday afternoon. 

How It Happened – Immaculata Match

  • The Mighty Macs took an early 3-1 edge in the first set before the Greyhounds rallied back for a 7-5 advantage. Immaculata retook the lead 17-14 while the Blue & Grey came back to knot the set at 20-20. Moravian eventually scored the last three points to earn a 25-23 victory for the set
  • The Hounds ran out to a 7-0 lead in the second set, and Moravian went on to take the game 25-10 for a 2-0 lead
  • The third set went back-and-forth to start with Immaculata eventually holding an 11-10 edge. The Greyhounds scored 15 of the final 19 points for a 25-15 set victory to complete the sweep
  • Sophomore outside Jenna Deegan led Moravian with nine kills to go with three blocks and a pair of digs while junior middle blocker Grace Silfani had eight kills and three blocks
  • Junior middle blocker Autumn Marerro contributed six kills and three digs while junior right side hitter Sophie Bauer and sophomore right side hitter Makenzie Krasley both recorded three kills and freshman outside hitter Caroline Melillo had two kills
  • Senior setter Natalia Matos registered 26 kills, 11 digs and three kills while senior libero Gabby Mancini had a team-high 18 digs to go with four service aces and three assists
  • Junior defensive specialist Kat DeYesso posted five service aces and three digs for the Greyhounds while freshman defensive specialist Tamara Vasquez had four service aces and four digs and junior defensive specialist Emily Szy added four digs and a service ace 

How It Happened – Rutgers-Camden Match

  • Rutgers-Camden took an early 6-2 lead in the opening set while Moravian countered with five points to move ahead 7-6. The Scarlet Raptors retook a 12-7 lead and had a 13-9 edge until the Greyhounds ran off five straight point to go up 14-13. The set continued to go back-and-forth with the Hounds eventually earning a 31-29 set win to take a 1-0 lead
  • The second set would also be back-and-forth on the scoreboard with the Blue & Grey knotting the game at 11-12. Rutgers-Camden scored seven of the next eight points to take control, and the Scarlet Raptors won the set 25-17 to even the overall match at 1-1
  • In the third set, Moravian built a 19-13 lead before Rutgers-Camden scored 12 of 15 points to earn a 25-22 victory to take a 2-1 edge
  • The Scarlet Raptors took a 6-1 advantage in the fourth set while the Hounds rallied back to knot the set at 11-11. Rutgers-Camden moved back in front and won a 25-21 set triumph to capture the contest
  • Deegan led Moravian with 15 kills and a pair of digs in the match while Silfani had 11 kills and three digs
  • Bauer contributed six kills and three digs while Krasley recorded five kills, four blocks and three digs and Marerro had three kills and three blocks
  • Matos registered 38 assists, 10 digs and four service aces while Mancini added 16 digs, three service aces and a pair of digs. Szy contributed six service aces and eight digs while Vasquez had seven digs and three service aces and DeYesso added six digs
