Greyhounds Fall in Non-Conference Match to Penn State-Berks

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball team fell to visiting Penn State-Berks, 3-0, in non-conference action in Johnston Hall Tuesday evening. 

How It Happened

  • The opening set saw the Greyhounds open a 2-0 lead. The Nittany Lions came back to take a 3-2 edge, and the set would go back-and-forth from there. Penn State-Berks opened a 14-10 lead before the Hounds countered and when ahead 16-15. The game stayed close and was knotted at 22-22 until the Nittany Lions scored the final three points for a 25-22 set victory
  • The second set was close early with Moravian up 3-2 when the Penn State-Berks scored four straight points to take the lead for good. The Blue and Grey closed within a point at 11-10, but the Nittany Lions pulled away for a 25-19 set win
  • The Greyhounds had an early 3-1 advantage in the third set, and the Hounds were up 5-4 when the Nittany Lions took the lead for good with three straight points. Penn State-Berks captured the set 25-16 to win the contest 

Inside the Numbers

  • Junior middle blocker Grace Silfani led Moravian with six kills and a block while junior right side hitter Sophie Bauer and sophomore right side hitter Makenzie Krasley both had four kills with Bauer adding five digs and a block
  • Sophomore outside hitter Jenna Deegan registered three kills, two digs and a block while freshman outside hitter Caroline Melillo had two kills
  • Senior setter Natalia Matos posted 18 assists, 11 digs and a pair of kills while senior libero Gabby Mancini recorded 18 digs and a kill. Junior defensive specialist Kat DeYesso had 12 digs and a pair of service aces while freshman defensive specialist Tamara Vasquez had nine digs
  • Freshman setter Ally Plitnick contributed six digs and a kill while junior defensive specialist Allie Ludlow added three digs and junior middle blocker Autumn Marerro had a kill and a block
