Hounds Sweep Penn State-Schuylkill in Johnston Hall

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball squad earned a 3-0 sweep of visiting Penn State-Schuylkill in non-conference action in Johnston Hall Thursday evening.

How It Happened

  • The opening set saw the Greyhounds jump out to a 4-0 lead with the Blue and Grey pulling away to a 21-8 advantage. The Nittany Lions closed the game to eight points before Moravian earned a 25-16 set victory
  • Penn State Schuylkill scored the first two points of the second set, and the Nittany Lions opened a 5-2 edge early in the set. Moravian came back to knot the game at 10-10 before taking a 12-11 lead. The set continued to go back-and-forth with Penn State Schuylkill taking a 19-17 advantage. The Hounds rallied back to move ahead 24-20, and the squad went on to capture the set 25-23
  • The Greyhounds took a quick 4-0 lead in the third set, and they pushed the advantage quickly to 11-1. The Blue & Grey earned a 25-5 set victory to clinch the match

Inside the Numbers

  • Freshman middle blocker Davana Elysee led Moravian with nine kills while freshman outside hitter Caroline Melillo and sophomore outside hitter Jenna Deegan each recorded five kills with Melillo adding four digs and a pair of service aces
  • Junior middle blocker Grace Silfani and junior right side hitter Sophie Bauer both posted four kills with Silfani recording three service aces while junior middle blocker Autumn Marrero contributed three kills
  • Freshman setter Ally Plitnick registered a team-high nine assists to go with six digs and a pair of kills while sophomore setter Emily Solomon added eight assists, three digs and three kills. Senior setter Natalia Matos contributed seven assists and a team-high nine digs to go with seven assists while senior libero Gabby Mancini had eight digs, six assists and four service aces
  • Freshman defensive specialist Tamara Vasquez also had four service aces to go with four digs while junior defensive specialists Emily Szy and Kat DeYesso both had two service aces with Szy adding five digs. Junior defensive specialist Allie Ludlow added five digs
