Moravian Competes in Tri-Match at Marywood with Misericordia

SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-1 matches to Misericordia University and Marywood University in a non-conference tri-match Saturday hosted by Marywood. 

How It Happened – Misericordia Match

  • The Greyhounds had the lead early in the opening set including a 13-9 edge before the Cougars rallied and moved in front 17-15. The Blue and Grey responded with 10 of the last 12 points to capture the set 25-19
  • Misericordia led the entire second set and earned a 25-10 win to even the contest at 1-1
  • The third set started close and was tied at 9-9; however, the Cougars eventually pulled away for a 25-12 set victory
  • Misericordia began the fourth game with a 6-0 lead and finished off the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth set
  • Junior right side hitter Sophie Bauer paced Moravian with seven kills and five digs while sophomore outside hitter Jenna Deegan and sophomore right side hitter Makenzie Krasley both recorded four kills with Deegan adding three digs
  • Senior setter Natalia Matos registered 13 assists, five digs and a kill while junior libero Emily Szy had eight digs
  • Junior defensive specialist Allie Ludlow contributed six digs while freshman defensive specialist Tamara Vasquez added three service aces and junior defensive specialist Kat DeYesso had three digs
  • Junior middle hitter Grace Silfani had three kills while freshman outside hitter Caroline Melillo recorded a pair of service aces and two digs

How It Happened – Marywood Match

  • The Hounds had an early 9-3 lead in the opening set with the Pacers, and Marywood battled back to knot the score at 15-15. The Pacers moved ahead 20-17 and eventually won the first game 26-24
  • Marywood jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second set, but Moravian pushed back and took a 7-4 edge. The Blue & Grey pushed the advantage to 12-7 only to see the Pacers score seven straight points to lead 14-12. The Greyhounds knotted the game at 18-18 and scored four straight points for a 22-18 edge on the way to a 25-22 set win to even the match at 1-1
  • The Pacers scored the first two points of the third set before the Hounds tied the game. Marywood answered with 10 straight points to take a 12-2 lead in the set. Moravian fought back within two points at 22-20 before the Pacers captured the set 25-21
  • Marywood had the first two points in the fourth set while the Greyhounds scored the next three to take a 3-2 lead. The Pacers answered with four straight points to take the lead for good on the way to a 25-16 set victory to capture the match
  • Bauer led Moravian again with nine kills to go with two digs while Krasley and Silfani both registered six kills and seven digs with Silfani adding four blocks and Krasley adding two blocks
  • Deegan and Melillo each recorded five kills and four digs while freshman middle blocker Davana Elysee added three blocks and a kill
  • Matos posted 27 assists, 12 digs and six kills while Szy led the squad with 18 digs and three service aces. Ludlow had a team-high five service aces in the contest to go with 10 digs while DeYesso contributed 14 digs and Vasquez had seven digs
